Strategic Management

Course Description

Strategic Management is a set of managerial decisions and actions determining the performance  on the global space in the long run through evaluation of external and internal environments, formulation, implementation, and reassessment and control of strategies.

This course consists of the followings: (a) Introduction of Strategic Management: Basic concepts of Strategic Management  are introduced by a method of system’s approach. (b) Evaluation of Environments: The external environment is evaluated to find opportunities and threats to the organization; and the internal  environment is similarly evaluated to find strengths and weaknesses of the organization. (c)  Formulation of Strategies: It is the phase of developing long-range plans including mission, objectives, strategies, and policies according to the change of goals and values of the organization.  (d) Implementation of Strategies: It is an adjustment of subsystems – the structure, personnel,  finance, marketing, technology, and command and control – according to the change of strategies  and policies in terms of programs, budgets, and procedures. (e) Other Strategic Issues: They are  to manage technology and innovation, entrepreneurial venture and small businesses, non-profit  organizations, and to investigate strategic leadership of the chief executive officer. 

Course Objectives

1. To understand how to analyze strengths and weaknesses of the organization upon the change of external and internal environments: supra-system, system, subsystem, and feedback.

2. To understand how to formulate strategies and policies with reasonable vision by structural or functional categories based on the previous analysis of environmental influence.

3. To understand implement strategies and policies through appropriate adjustment of all subsystems to the change of goals, values, and missions. 

4. To understand other strategic issues such as on technology and innovation, venture and small business, non-profit organization, and governance and executive leadership.
